Just when you think you’ve seen the last of Venom, the symbiote menace comes along and possesses MJ, turning her into Scream. You need to save MJ – who is now the host of the alien symbiote – and fight Scream as Peter Parker, which will lead you to your next confrontation with Venom and set up the final few bosses in the game. When Lizard is on the loose in NYC, Miles and Peter must chase it down and keep up the pursuit. Eventually, another phase will begin where you’re webbed onto him and have to dodge away from falling debris as you tail him up the side of a building. Frustrated by his continued inability to defeat Spider-Man, Kraven became one of the founding members of the original Sinister Six, though he remained unsuccessful in his quest. One of the most formidably unrelenting villains introduced in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is Sergei Kravinoff, better known as Kraven the Hunter. Leading a group of elite mercenaries dubbed the Hunters, Kraven is constantly on the search for an opponent worthy of his immensely lethal talents. We’ll see if Insomniac will finally top its best effort with the upcoming Wolverine game and the inevitable Spider-Man 3, but for now, this is the best it gets if you want to play as everyone’s favorite Web-Slinger. And as Marvel’s flagship character, it just feels right that his best game is also the greatest Marvel game ever made.
Thankfully, the developers have taken note and, although they haven’t omitted alternative character sections, they have substantially improved them. Of course, it’s a stun gun — she’s no Lethal Protector — but the inclusion of some offensive mechanic makes MJ’s sections much more bearable to play, and dare I say, fun? There are other guest characters to helm as well, but for the sake of spoilers, let’s just stick to the fact that these portions of the game are massively improved in terms of gameplay and their contribution to the narrative. The story bounces between the two, letting players switch on the fly between the characters to progress along their individual and shared threads.

As Peter Parker fights his way through the crime wave of New York City in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, he’s going to need the best abilities to back him up. Normally I’m a very story-focused player, but something about Spider-Man 2’s New York compelled me to deal with every side activity I possibly could and because of this, I clocked in 25 hours before I completed Peter and Miles’ journey.
